Finally started my pet project

I've had a busy week (so what else is new?) Here's what I've done, related to my art:
1. Got my website up and running (needs some tweaking but it's a start!)
2. Started working on a new, large piece of artwork that I have been wanting to do for a while.
3. Attended an orientation class for local public access cable station, so I can possible produce a TV show down the road
4. Submitted my application for grant money
5. Attended San Jose First Fridays with some other artists
6. Attended another artist friend's opening of her new gallery(it is FABULOUS!) www.sonyaPaz.com
7. Listed my artwork and website link on craigslist

So, what's next? Good question. I am feeling the pressure from the economy problems and feel like I need to look for some part time work. So, I'm spending about an hour per day on that.

As for my ART, though...
1. Make new business cards
2. Finish the big new piece
3. Frame or mount some of the smaller designs
4. Prepare press release for Willow Glen show, which is in January
5. Send email blast to friends about enw website and post new website on Facebook/myspace page
6. Post video (LAYERS OF LIFE) on YouTube
7. Sign up for TV production class

Well maybe this is boring for all you fans out there to be reading this, but this is part of my creative process...making a plan for the week. If you want to hear about my internal creative process, here goes!
I started working on a large version of this cool design (images to follow whenever I can get the other computer to work so I can scan them in) that I have liked for along time. I spent hours setting up a large, hanging canvas (not stretched...) I had to figure out how to hang it, so I ended up screwing a piece of wood to the top of the canvas, so that it just simply hangs down. It looks good, but I am not sure if this method will work when I have to hang it using fishing line, which is what they use in galleries.
But it looks good using screws...
SO, then I set up my video camera so I could tape the process of making it, which means setting up the tripod and lights, and cleaning up my studio.
I also had to purchase a bunch of sharpie pens, which is what I am using to make the piece. I could only find one of the 3 that I bought! So, the piece starts off with a nice clean line, then gradually gets less crisp as I move down the canvas. Now it's too late to start with a new one, because then it will look weird, so I am just continuing with it this way. It doesn't look bad...
But the whole design, well I am not thrilled with it. I am about 3/4 done, and it is less than spectacular. I think it's because the canvas is so large, the design doesn't move like i thought it would. On a smaller canvas, it would. So, I'll finish it and look at it for awhile then decide if I want to paint over it, color it, or leave as is.
ALl for today...more tomorrow!

Just plugging along

I had trouble sleeping last night because I was thinking about all the possible things I would do with my new design. Big, small, tilted, colors, shading with pastels. So many possibilities! So little time. I tried the pastel version today, looks pretty cool. I am going to scan them in so I can post them. Had lots of other obligations so didn't get too much done, and it's only going to get worse this week, after all it is Thanksgiving. I am so thankful that I can pursue my art full time, although there never seems to be enough time in the day. Hope to sleep better tonight.

You found me!

I've already started a few other blogs over the past year, so if you want to follow my artistic journey, for now, just click on the link to the left...Lori's Eco Blog. Eventually I will transition to this one but for now...THANKS
